Everyday can be a day of love, and the first person to show how much you care for is you. Now, before anyone thinks I am talking about being narcissistic, don't worry. What I am talking about is simply taking excellent care of yourself so that you have the energy and the desire to share your gifts, love, time and other resources with others.

When we give from an overflowing cup, we give with joy and love. When we give from an empty cup, we give from a place of lack and hardship, maybe even martyrdom. Filling our cup to overflowing helps us to be generous with others. It is so much easier to give joyfully when that giving comes from a place of feeling nurtured.

There are many ways to take care of yourself and show how much you care. Here are just a few suggestions:

- Give yourself the gift of a flower of the month club, or week, and have fresh flowers delivered to your office or home

- Indulge yourself in a delicious meal at your favorite restaurant

- Set aside one night a week to do something just for you

- Create a space in your home that is your space. Fill it up with things that you love and that support and comfort you

- Designate one of your desk drawers as you comfort drawer. Keep special treats, aromatherapy items, and any kind of de-stresser you might enjoy.

There are many ways to take care of yourself. What you do isn't as important as just taking care of yourself and filling up your cup. Self-care is actually the nicest thing you can do not only for yourself, but also for the loved ones in your life. The better you take care of yourself, the better you will be able to take care of them.

We all do so much for others and truly I wouldn't change that. One of my top five values is generosity. I love giving to others, but that doesn't mean that I can't be generous with myself too. I deserve to be treated just as wonderfully as I treat others. And so do you.

The reason for self-care is to take care of yourself so you can be your best in everything you do.

This week write in your journal what you can do for yourself and what you should do for yourself this week.

Quotes

"Self-love, my liege, is not so vile a sin as self-neglecting." William Shakespeare

"Every day, in every way, I am getting better and better." Emile Coue

"I am the greatest!" I am not talking about being selfish and self-absorbed. I am talking about self-respect, self care and loving yourself enough to be your own best Valentine. When you love yourself, you are able to love others and allow others to love you back. Today is a great day to show how much you appreciate you.

If you would like to receive flowers, candy or a gift, then send yourself flowers, buy yourself a gift or buy some delicious candy. If someone else buys you a gift, that will just be icing on the cake. Treat yourself to a special coffee in the morning or go to your favorite restaurant for lunch or dinner. Perhaps schedule a special spa treatment for later in the week or leave work early and indulge in a special treat. Whatever makes you feel special and loved is what you should do today. In addition, be open to the love and appreciation you receive from others. Loving yourself allows you to receive the love and affection others have to offer.

Don't wait for someone to make your day. Make your own day by showering yourself with love and appreciation. Whatever will make this day special for you is what you should do. I have been known to send myself flowers, buy myself a box of Godiva chocolate or spend time at the spa. It isn't about being selfish; it is about self-love and care. The more you love and care for yourself, the more you can love and care for others.

How will you show yourself how much you are loved?

Quotes

"You must love yourself before you love another. By accepting yourself and fully being what you are, your simple presence can make others happy." Anonymous

"I don't like myself, I'm crazy about myself." Mae West

"If you aren't good at loving yourself, you will have a difficult time loving anyone, since you'll resent the time and energy you give another person that you aren't even giving to yourself." In an attempt to get all the golden eggs, the goose was killed. Unfortunately, a dead goose does not produce any eggs, so killing the goose was the end of the good fortune.

I was thinking about this fable and how it relates to the way we treat ourselves. We are our own golden goose. We are the ones that create the golden eggs in our lives. Unfortunately, we do not always recognize how important we are and how important our self-care is. We fail to see that if we do not take care of ourselves, we will end up like the goose, unable to produce golden eggs. We will be stressed, sick and depleted.

When I suggest self-care to some of my clients, they shun the idea at first because they think it is selfish. And they are right, it is. But not selfish in the way that we ignore others or step over others to get what we want. Self-care is about taking care of ourselves so that we can take care of others and give from a place of abundance and love. It is difficult to take care of anyone else if we are exhausted and spent. We end up giving from a place of lack and resentment and that does not benefit anyone.

Taking care of the golden goose in your life (you) is an important first step in creating a more abundant and happy life. When we take care of ourselves, we have more energy, enthusiasm and compassion for others. We can give from a place of abundance and not lack. Giving becomes something we do because we want to not because we have to. Taking care of ourselves is really the first step in being more generous and loving to others.

Are you taking care of the golden goose?

Quotes

"Kill not the goose that lays the golden egg." Taking care of ourselves and putting our priorities first often feels selfish. The best way to shift that perspective and look at self-care in a different light is to think about what self-care does for you and what it enables you to do for others. If we do not take care of ourselves and put our own well being first, what will we have left to give others? If we are burnt out and stressed and overloaded, what will be left of us to share? We cannot give away what we don't have. If we don't have energy, or time, or even enough love for ourselves, we cannot give energy, or time, or love to others.

Self-care is not a selfish; it actually is the most loving thing we can do for others. By taking care of ourselves, we build up reserves of time, energy, love and other positive things that we can share with others. When we give from an empty cup, we soon will become completely depleted, resentful and perhaps even sick.

This week, do three things just for yourself such as taking a relaxing bath, treating yourself to your favorite meal or spending time doing nothing. Make an appointment with yourself for self-care, write it down, and don't be late!

Quotes

"A man too busy to take care of his health is like a mechanic too busy to take care of his tools." Something I have started this year is doing a monthly review. In the past I have always done a yearly review of the successes for that year. When my husband and I sat down this year to look at how 2008 went we had a challenging time remembering WAY back to the first of the year. We came up with a list of things but I am sure there were more. So this year I decided to do the review at the end of the month.

I don't know about you but I can't remember what I did yesterday let alone 12 months ago. By keeping track of the success as I go I am able to see what is working, what I might need to change and what I might need to stop altogether. It gives me more of a real picture in real time. After all 12 months from now there isn't much I can do to change the results, but right now I can.

Before you go any further into February sit down and write your accomplishments for January. Make a list of everything you are proud of, completed or even started. My list included:

Launched 2 DAPP Success Camps
Kept up with Daily Action
Designed Course for University
Spent time with friends
Celebrated Birthday

I had several others and a few that were projects that I simply got a start on. Looking at that list made me feel really great! I am encouraged to keep on going and create more success for February!

So get started and make your list! Do it now before you forget.

Here's to taking action,

Rachelle

Live the Day Radio is back

Greetings:

Join me for the re-launch of "Live the Day" on Blog Talk Radio. I didn't start on Jan first, I had just wrapped up a 90 Day program and took a break. So on the 12th day of the year I started my action program. So far I have managed to do something for twenty six consecutive days, with only 327 days to the end of the year left to go.

I am excited because although I have done the daily action, I have never committed to doing something every single day. I usually do 90 days and then take a week or so off and start back up. This year I won't be taking breaks. I will just keep repeating the 90 Day Power Process over and over.

One of the most important things about daily action is that you track it. I have special sheets I created for the Daily Action Power Process Success Camp but you can create your own. Just use a notebook or a journal and write your goal(s) down and the steps you will take that day to achieve them. Remember to keep the steps small so that they won't be overwhelming. Doing a little every day will get you a lot over time.

If you haven't started on the Daily Action Power Process yet this year don't worry you have time. Just get started now!

If you need support but want flexibility I will be launching my Virtual Daily Action Power Process Camp on Monday. I will post all the details on Monday on how you can sign up.

Remember, every step you take is one step closer to your goal!

Here's to taking action,

Rachelle

Starbucks Cup #51

Greetings:

I make no bones about the fact that I love Starbucks. Interestingly enough I didn't start drinking coffee until 1995, the year I was laid off from my corporate job. My friend and I both took the "Package" and found ourselves at work for three months without anything to do. Once we notified the company that we would take the voluntary layoff our offices were cleared out and we were left to sit and twiddle our thumbs. We ended up spending hours at Starbucks. My colleague taught me how to order, not such a simple thing at Starbucks, and I was hooked. Been drinking Latte's ever since. Now I drink Soy Latte's but that is about all that has changed.

Besides the coffee at Starbucks I also love the cups. Not just any Starbucks cup but the ones that have "The Way I See It" on them. Recently I wrote a Day based on a Starbucks cup. It was #51 in the series and was by Michael Medved, author of Right Turns and radio talk show host. According to Medved "Americans spend an average of 29 hours a week watching television, which means in a typical life span we devote 13 uninterrupted years to our TV sets! The biggest problem with mass media isn't low quality, it's high quantity. Cutting down just an hour a day would provide extra years of life, for music and family, exercise and reading, conversation and coffee."

One of my 100 things I would like to do before I die is be on a Starbucks cup. I have actually made a mock-up of my cup and have it pinned on the wall in front of my desk. It is sort of a mini Prosperity Board. I see "MY" Starbucks cup every day. I have even had people come into my office and be pretty surprised when they see I have been on a Starbucks cup. I tell them it is just a preview of things to come!

Remember if you want something you have to see it and believe it before you can receive it. Whatever it is you want create a visual of it so that you can see it everyday and be inspired by it. The more you see it the more real it will become to you and the more you will believe it can happen.

Here's to taking action,

Rachelle

Your Oxygen Mask Comes First

Greetings:

If you have ever been on commercial airlines you might remember the flight attendant announces the procedure to use an oxygen mask in an emergency. Put yours on first. Then they suggest helping fellow travelers. That may seem odd since many of us often want to help others before we take care of ourselves, but taking care of ourselves first ensures that we won't run out of oxygen and thus be unable to help others or ourselves.

It is the same in life. We need to take care of ourselves first so that we can keep up our energy and health. Then we can take care of others. Doing for others at the sacrifice of our own well being isn't a smart idea. Eventually we run out of energy and run ourselves down to the point where we won't be able to help anyone including ourselves.

Make a commitment to take care of yourself so you can be of help to others. By taking care of yourself first, you will be able to take care of others for a long time to come. The great news is the better you take care of yourself, the better you will be able to take care of those who matter most to you.

Self-care isn't selfish it is smart. It ensures that you will be able to do the things you want to do in life, including taking care of others, for a long time. Self-care is about self-love and self-respect. You would never neglect others the way you do yourself. So stop! Put your oxygen mask on and always keep in mind, if you are not taking care of yourself first, you will not be able to take care of others.

Where are you when it comes to self-care? Do you put yourself first in your life? If not what is the price you are paying? If self-care is a problem for you, seek professional support such as a physical fitness trainer, a dietician, or other professionals who can help you put yourself and your well being first.

Quotes

"If you must trust anyone in life, let it be yourself." The theory is that the better we take care of ourselves, the better we can take care of others and create a great life. Extreme self-care is about taking care of ourselves in all areas of our lives so that we have the energy and time to do the things we want to do. It is a great theory. However, I have noticed that many people have an easier time practicing the art of Extreme Self-Neglect.

Through life, many of us have received the message that we should come last. That somehow it is selfish to put ourselves first. The truth is taking care of ourselves isn't an act of selfishness. It is an act of self-love, something many struggle with. For some reason, we think that putting everyone else first shows how much we care. The truth is this is a recipe for burnout. Putting ourselves first is a much better way of showing others how much we care. When we take care of ourselves, we can better manage supporting and caring for others.

How do you know if you are practicing extreme self-neglect? The signs are many, but a few are never having time for yourself, feeling run down and tired most of the time and not being able to remember the last time you did something for yourself. Extreme self-neglect is a guaranteed way to assure that, in the long run, you won't be able to take care of anyone. Eventually your body will give up and run out of energy.

Think of your body in terms of a car. A car needs regular maintenance. At the very least, it requires fuel. If we allow the car to fall into disrepair, it cannot run at top performance. If we allow the car to run out of fuel, it will simply stop running. It is the same with our bodies. If we don't perform regular maintenance and provide sufficient fuel, eventually we can count on a decline in performance.

Taking care of our bodies is more than simply feeding and resting from time to time. Our bodies need care in three areas, mind, body and soul. Our minds need to be rested and refreshed. Learning is a great way to refuel our minds and taking mental breaks is a great way to relax our minds. Our bodies need nourishment and exercise along with regular maintenance. Taking care of our souls may look like spending time in nature or bringing more peace into our lives. All three areas of our lives need to be nurtured and cared for. Extreme self-neglect in any of these areas will have a negative effective on all areas.

What area in your life is experiencing a form of extreme self-neglect? What is one thing you can do this week to begin to turn that around? Focus on that one area until you have it where you want it and are regularly practicing extreme self-care.

Quotes

"Those who have virtue always in their mouths, and neglect it in practice, are like a harp, which emits a sound pleasing to others, while itself is insensible of the music." Perhaps it has to do with the messages that we received when we were young about not being selfish. Self-care isn't about being selfish; it is about loving ourselves enough to make our well-being a priority. If contributing to and taking care of others is important to us, then our self-care is vital. If all we do is give and give, eventually we will give out.

Here are some suggestions for making self-care a priority in your life:

Schedule it in. If it is written down or in the palm pilot, the chances are greater that it will happen. Schedule at least one self-care item a week, more if you can. This can be a massage, facial, or just some time alone. By scheduling it in, we are making our self-care and ourselves a priority.

Realize that self-care is not a luxury. It is a necessity. The more frazzled and stressed we are, the less we can contribute to the other people and our tasks. Self-care helps us maintain a sense of balance. When we put ourselves first and do what we need to do to stay healthy and vibrant, we have more to give to other people and tasks.

Make self-care a habit. We all have habits. Habits are things we do automatically without much thought. By making self-care a habit, we will do it without much stress or fuss. When self-care becomes a habit, the level of stress will decrease and life will become more balanced as a result.

I was reading an article in a health magazine about a program that was set up for caregivers of family members stricken with Alzheimer's disease. This program provides relief for the caregiver by scheduling a day off and some much needed rest and relaxation. The statistics for those who care for family members with Alzheimer's are startling. Often they will become sick and have a high incident of heart attack and stroke because of the stress and demand of caring for their loved one. With just a little reprieve, the caregiver is better able to care for their family member and stay healthy himself or herself.

Self-care is not about being selfish. It is about self-love. The ironic thing about it is the more we love ourselves and take care of ourselves, the more we are able to love and care for others. We cannot give from an empty cup. If all we do is give and give without replenishing our energy supply, we will eventually give out. If we want to be around to take care of the ones we care about, taking care of ourselves is a top priority.

One of my coaches told me that I had mastered the art of self-care. Indeed, I have become very good at it. I believe my mastery is the result of the years I neglected myself and put everyone else first. My experience taught me that doing that just doesn't work. I have learned the hard way how important it is to put my well-being and myself first.

Take time this week to schedule time for self care. This can be anything you want it to be. Self-care is different for everyone. For some, it might be a round of golf, for others it might be an hour in the library. Whatever it takes to renew and replenish your mind, body and spirit.

"Love as if you liked yourself, and it may happen." Marge Piercy

"Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. You really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world." Although February is usually when we focus on love for others I think it is also a good month to focus on self love and self care. This isn't about being selfish, far from it. It is about taking care of yourself and loving yourself enough that you have the best of you to offer to others. You will be coming from a place of being happy, content and generous, and what could be better than that?

This month look for post that will put an emphasis on taking great care of you so you can take great care of others.

Here's to taking action,

Rachelle

Juno the Movie

Greetings:

When the movie Juno first came out I had no interest in seeing it. A movie about a pregnant teenager just didn't sound all that interesting. This weekend I ended up seeing the movie and loved it.

Juno is an excellent study in human behavior. The movie focuses on Juno, the teenager that gets pregnant, but the movie allows the other characters the opportunity to react to her situation as well. Although I am not sure everyone would have the support and understanding Juno had, the movie demonstrated that it can happen.

I had two favorite scenes in the movie and both included Juno's stepmother. Although Juno and the stepmother had a some what strained relationship, when the time called for it the stepmother was right there standing up for Juno. I found those to be the most touching scenes of the movie.

I also loved the ending. A little bit of a surprise but again a great look into the human experience.

I would recommend seeing the movie. It is well directed and had some great scenes where you really have to pay attention to what the director is trying to get across.

If you can catch this on HBO do it. Or put it on your Netflix list. It is worth a couple hours.

Cinema Coaching - although this movie doesn't provide a lot of coaching fodder there is one great coaching lesson to be learned. The biggest lesson I got from the movie is that choices = consequences. Yes Juno is 16 and doesn't think things through, she does learn that everything that you do has a consequence. That consequence usually leads to more consequences and that they can't always be controlled. Also what you do often has an impact on other people, either those you know or don't know and that you have to take responsibility for that. Juno learned the hard way that decisions often lead to more, and often much more difficult, decisions.

I tell my clients that before taking any action, stop, think and act. Often just the act of stopping will give you a chance to gain perspective. If you have enough wits about you ask, "What is the worst thing that can happen and can I live with it?" The answer to that question will tell you if you want to proceed.

Here's to taking Action,

Rachelle

Getting Started Is The Toughest Part Of The Job

Getting Started Is The Toughest Part Of The Job

One of the most challenging things about starting on a new project, a goal or a task usually isn't the planning, the thinking about it and the mapping it out. It is the doing. Actually taking the first step is usually the most difficult part of any new endeavor.

I was reading a project managers manual and found it interesting that listed, as one of the reasons projects fail, is lack of implementation. In others words, not starting the project was a major cause of its failure. Such is with life; we can have the best intentions and plans, but if we never start, nothing will happen.

I have noticed that, when I start a new project, procrastination sets in. I remember when I was writing my dissertation my house was never cleaner. In fact, one day I was outside scrubbing down my kitchen garbage can with a toothbrush. My husband wanted to know what on earth I was doing. "I am avoiding working on my paper," I said. Getting started just seems to be the most challenging aspect of anything new.

My guess is one of the biggest reasons that starting is so challenging is the fear of the unknown. All the doubts and uncertainty can be overwhelming. Also fear of not doing it right, or even not knowing what to do. The cure for all of these fears is action. Action is the enemy of fear. The best thing to do when fear sets in is to take action, and the secret is any action will do. Just get moving and fear will move aside and the beginning will start.

Coaching

If getting started has you stunned with fear, take a deep breath and take one small action. Do something, anything. It doesn't matter what you do as long as you take action. Getting started is challenging, but once you do you will build momentum that will keep you going.

Another trick that might help you is to get an accountability partner. Someone you will report to from time to time on your progress. It sounds silly, but you are more likely to start and stick with what you promise someone else than just promising yourself. It is so easy to break a promise you make to you, but not as easy to do so when you have committed to a friend, a mentor or a coach. I have clients that hire me just for the accountability aspect, and it works.

Coaching Question

Are you ready to get started?

Coaching Challenge

This week make a commitment to get started on a goal, a task or a project you have been putting off. For additional support, enlist the help of a friend. Don't keep putting off what you want. Take the first step and the next one will be easier.

Daily Success Formula

Getting Started + Taking Action = The hardest part completed

Quotes

"Sometimes, people use age as a convenient excuse. 'I'm too old too start something new', or, 'I couldn't learn that at my age.' Other people, though, go on to achieve their greatest accomplishments in life in later years." It seems that there is a new system being created everyday. It makes me wonder if the old system did not work or if it wasn't worked.

Experience has taught me that if a system is based on a strong foundation and is worked consistently, it will work. All it takes is action. The problem is most people want the system to solve the problem and create the results. Alone the system cannot do anything. The system is simply the tool. The tool is no good without consistent action.

It seems many people are looking for the magic answer. The system that is going to cure whatever it is that ails them. No system is going to fix anything. The system is simply the tool we can use to create the change that we want. Alone the system is of no use. Backed with consistent action, it is powerful.

Coaching

Most of us know what to do. We have tried enough systems for losing weight, making money and a myriad of other things to know what works. It is not the system that is the problem. It is the lack of consistent action. We cannot expect the system to do anything. We are the ones that power the system. If we put consistent and persistent action behind just about any system, it will work. We simply have to find a system that fits for us and work it.

I have experienced in my life that once the system starts to work I drop the system. I somehow think that I can stop doing what is working and it will continue to work. If you find something that works for you, do not stop doing it because it works. Build it into the structure of your life and make it a habit. Once the system becomes a habit it will support you in creating what it is you want.

Do you have a system that works for you?

Daily Success Formula

Consistent Action + Persistent Action + Working the System = Success

Quotes

"People are where they are because that is exactly where they really want to be--whether they will admit that or not." The end result is simply the product of daily action. Without doing something every day towards the goal, there wouldn't be anything to celebrate.

The old joke, "How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time" is a great example of how to achieve success. Nothing happens overnight. Success is in small consistent daily actions. When I work with clients on creating goals, I have them break down their goals into what they can do this month, this week and today. We create a strategic plan that enables the client to understand what has to happen each day to achieve the goal. Some clients are surprised that they can do something every day towards the goal, but actually it is the only way. When you examine how you have achieved, you will notice that the success came from the little steps you took along the way that added up and made the big difference.

Coaching

With the New Year here, this is a great time to establish a new goal or recommit to an old one. This time, however, don't focus so much on the end result, but the steps that need to be taken to achieve the goal. It can be overwhelming to think, "Oh my! I have to lose 75 pounds." But, if you look at it one day at a time and focus on what you need to do that day, it becomes easier. Attend to the daily actions and the end result will take care of itself.

Coaching Question

What are you willing to do today towards you goal?

Coaching Challenge

Create a strategic plan for one goal or change you would like to see happen this year. Map out the daily actions you will need to take. Keep in mind that the success comes in the daily action, so make a commitment to do something every day, and achieving your goal is guaranteed.

Daily Success Formula

Daily Action + Commitment = Success

Quotes

"The game of life is a game of boomerangs. The really big things start out as a wish. The wish turns into a dream, and, if you are serious about the dream, it turns into a goal. Once the goal is set, a plan must be created and action taken if the wish is to come true.

Wishes don't come true unless they turn into dreams. Dreams are deep desires that compel the dreamer to move forward. The dream, if it is to come to life needs to turn into a goal. Turning the dream into a goal brings the dream into reality and gives the dream a concrete plan of action. The most crucial step in the entire process is to take action. Taking action is the only way you are going to make your wish come true.

Coaching

The way to make a wish come true is a process. The process is to take action on the plan to make the wish come true. Wishes don't just "poof" into existence. Wishes take hard work, determination, and a little sweat.

Coaching Question

Are you ready to move your wish into reality?

Live the Day

Pick a wish and begin working to make it come true.

Daily Success Formula

Wish + Dream + Goal + Plan + Action = Wish come true

Quotes

"Happy the man who early learns the wide chasm that lies between his wishes and his powers." Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

"You are never given a wish without also being given the power to make it come true. You may have to work for it, however." Richard Bach

"To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe." That's because we judge other people's actions, and we justify our own. Instead of judging other people to be stupid, just take their actions as is. It is difficult to know why other people do what they do. There could be a number of reasons for their actions, and being stupid is only one of them.

A great example of this concept can be seen in driving. When someone pulls out in front of you, he or she is stupid. When you pull out in front of someone else, you didn't see the car, it was in your blind spot, or whatever else you use to justify the action. I have rarely been a passenger in a vehicle when the driver admitted that the right turn made from the left lane was stupid. There always is a good reason why the driver made that move. And I would guess that is true for most people.

The biggest thing I have learned from coaching is how easy it is to see what other people are doing wrong in their lives and what is causing the problem. The reason I can do this is because I have the bigger picture of my client's life, what I call "the bird's eye view." My client is too close to what is going on and has what I call "the grass blade view." People don't do stupid things on purpose; they do them because they don't see the bigger picture. They are too close to the situation to see exactly what is going on.

Coaching

We have all done stupid things. Instead of constantly judging others, give them the benefit of the doubt and move on. The good news is that most stupid things people do don't end up causing major harm. Instead of worrying about the stupid things other people are doing, pay attention to what you are doing and do your best not to do too many stupid things yourself.

Coaching Question

Are you judging others and justifying your own behavior?

Daily Action

Today, refrain from judging the actions of others as stupid and pay attention to your own actions.

Quotes

"When a stupid man is doing something he is ashamed of, he always declares
that it is his duty." George Bernard Shaw

"The sense of humor is the oil of life's engine. Without it, the machinery creaks and groans. No lot is so hard, no aspect of things is so grim, but it relaxes before a hearty laugh." George S. Had a wonderful birthday. I received dozen of calls, lots of well wishes on my Facebook page, cards, gifts and surprises. My wonderful husband took me on a shopping spree! That is always fun. We then went to dinner at Chili's where I had Steak and Portobello Mushroom Fajitas (hold the steak). After dinner we went to Fridays where we shared a Brownie Obsession and I had a fancy coffee drink. I had to stop Jason the bartender from making me a shooter.

The whole day was great. I finished a big project I was working on for a client, coached and launched my two new DAPP Success Camps.

To top it off it snowed which was so beautiful to watch during the day.

I apologize I keep forgetting to take pictures of all my fun events. Well don't worry I am still celebrating throughout the week and I promise I will remember to pull the camera out and snap a few pictures. Wait until you see the new birthday outfit my husband got me!

Didn't get the fish yet. We need to find out if fish can live in cold water. We don't turn our heat up very much during the winter, we both like it kind of chilly. I think that might have been what killed my last fish. I am going to check at the pet store tomorrow.

No Vegan cake yet either. Need to stop by Whole Foods and get a slice.

The celebration continues. Stay tuned.

Here's to taking action,

Rachelle

Happy Birthday to Me!

Greetings:

Today is my birthday and I don't mind telling you I am 49! I was born on January 26, 1960 at 5:45am. I was early, which my mom always said it was the only time in my life that I arrived early!

I like birthdays because they are an individual holiday. You get to celebrate you! For ways people celebrate birthdays around the world go to Birthday Traditions!

It depends, this year I am having a very low key birthday but there have been birthdays when I have gone all out. It really doesn't matter what you do on your birthday as long as you celebrate it. Don't miss the chance to celebrate your life and who you are.

I also don't just celebrate one day, I like to say I am having a Birthday Month. I celebrate throughout the month with friends and family. This week I am having lunches and dinners out with friends and family all week and will even be going for a Pedicure with my friend Kathleen. All to celebrate the day I was born! Got to love that.

And what gift did I want for my birthday? A fish! My fish died a couple months ago and I really miss him. I told my husband all I wanted for my birthday is a piece of Vegan Chocolate cake and a fish! Hopefully I will have pictures to share of the new fish soon.

Birthdays are important and need to be celebrated. How will you celebrate your birthday?

Here's to taking action,

Rachelle

No One Thing Is To Blame

No One Thing Is To Blame

When we look at the cause of something gone wrong, it usually become apparent that there is not one thing to blame, but a chain of events. A great example is if we are overweight. It isn't the donut we ate this morning that caused the excess baggage, but the donuts and other consumed items that contributed to the extra pounds. Our life is a combination of events and happenings. Instead of looking for the one thing to blame, look for the chain of events that is causing the problem.

To try to blame one thing, or even one person, we will miss the cause and the chance to prevent problems from reoccurring. Instead of looking at just the end result, take a systems approach and look at all the contributing factors. Everything affects everything, so notice what is happening in your life and when you first noticed the problem. Taking the weight example, perhaps you were going along fine and something stressful or challenging happened. Exercise became too difficult to fit into your schedule, next the eating habits slid, then you ran out of your vitamins and didn't purchase more and the next thing you knew you had gained twenty pounds and were not feeling as energetic as you once had. You can see that it was multiple events and not just one action that caused the slide. By understanding what contributed to the slip, we can better understand what needs to be corrected in order to make the changes we desire. We can also see that in challenging situations we have a tendency to let go of healthy habits, and this is good to know. This way we can prepare for challenging situations and guard against letting a slip become a rapid fall.

Coaching

I once had a friend, who never ran up debt, tell me it was never one purchase that got people into trouble. It was a combination of purchases that crept onto their credit cards that created the large debt. Often people don't even realize how deep in debt they are until they are in over their heads. This is because it doesn't happen overnight, it happens over time. No one purchase is to blame; it is a string of purchases. This is true with almost every problem we have. It didn't just happen; there were a series of events that led to the problem.

The good news is that at anytime we can stop the next event from happening and take new actions. We can turn the situation around, but we first must stop the process that has begun. The chain of events will continue to happen until we stop it and take back control.

Coaching Question

Are you ready to change your life one action at a time?

Coaching Challenge

No one thing is going to change your life. It takes a series of events and actions that will create a problem or create something great in your life. Since we have the freedom of choice, you can choose at anytime to begin to change your life one action at a time. Today, decide to do one thing differently than you did yesterday. For example, if you usually have a donut for breakfast, have a healthier breakfast. If you want to save money, but can't seem to, just put one dollar into your piggy bank. Change happens one action at a time. If you put one dollar a day away for a year you would have $365.00 by the end of the year. Every action adds up.

Daily Success Formula

Time + Action = Results

Quotes

"Fate knows where you are going, but it is up to you to drive there." Michelle Keesling

"What you do speaks so loud that I cannot hear what you say." Ralph Waldo Emerson

"A man is the sum of his actions, of what he has done, of what he can do, nothing else." As you might have noticed I have been updating almost every day since the first of the year. This was intentional on my part. I wanted to keep the momentum going at least for the first month because I know this can be a very challenging time. We are still in the "quit zone" where those that made New Years Resolutions and Goals are tempted to give up or even forget what they decided they would do. By posting every day I am hoping I will give you some incentive and encouragement to keep on going.

I know every day is pretty frequent, but I didn't design the process I just figured out a way to leverage it. And that is by taking daily action. I promise you if there is a secret to success that is it. Just do something every day towards your goal and you are pretty much guaranteed to achieving it.

You ask anyone that is a success and they will tell you that they started early and they did it often. You can't expect to become a success at something you just do on occasion or just when you feel like it. Frequency is key.

I have recently been introduced to the concept that it takes about 10,000 times to achieve mastery at anything. Okay so who doesn't think 10,000 times is a lot? That sounds overwhelming to me, however it sounds less intimidating if you break that down into daily action. I have a hard time wrapping my head around doing anything 10,000 times, but doing one thing a day doesn't sound so bad. I can do that.

Please don't give up because life is too frequent or daily action is well, so daily. Just keep doing what you know works and do it every day. By the end of the year you will be 365 steps closer to your goal.

Here's to taking action,

Rachelle
